News Release
Arts and Culture Centre of
Sussex appoints new Executive Director
JULY 25, 2016. SUSSEX, NB.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
The Arts and Culture Centre
of Sussex (AX) has hired a new executive director to guide the Centre’s
creation and launch, as well as bolster the area’s vital arts community, Peter
Powning, a director of AX, has announced.
“I’m pleased to announce Jane Simpson’s appointment,” said Powning. “She
has a significant background in project management and the communications and
marketing fields, and a proven record of building strong working relationships.
Jane has a sincere love of the arts and is active in the arts community,
volunteering her public relations experience with several organizations,
including AX. Her past work experience will help lead our efforts as we work to
get the AX Centre up and running, implement new programming, and bring
important arts and cultural experiences to our area.”
Simpson is a communications and marketing consultant and has worked as a
government communications officer and as marketing manager for UNB Saint John. She
was recently contracted by Mrs. Dunster’s to act as project manager,
coordinating the acquisition of a new bakery and leading the marketing
integration and launch of their new products. As a writer, musician, and
craftsperson, Simpson is passionate about supporting arts and artists, as well
as bringing art and culture into communities. She has a Bachelor of Arts with
Honours in English from UNB and is an award-winning writer of poetry and short
fiction.
“I’m pleased to be working with the board of directors and the arts
community in Sussex and beyond,” said Simpson. “It’s exciting to be in on the
ground floor with AX and encouraging to see how people have rallied to support
the creation of our own arts and culture centre.”
AX will boast a professional, climate-controlled gallery, allowing for a
wide range of exhibitions. The new space will also have rental studios, a
ceramic arts studio, and a classroom for workshops in art, music, literary
arts, and other cultural activities and presentations.
The mission of the Arts and Culture Centre of Sussex
is to support, advocate for, and promote arts and culture as essential to the
quality of life of the people in our region.
